Telaga (Lake) Legaye Lol (Yonelo) - Central Halmahera Attractions


Halmahera has many telaga (lakes), one of them which becomes tourist destination is Telaga Legaye Lol, known as Yonelo. Lake Yonelo  is located on Sagea Village, Central Halmahera regency, North Maluku province. This lake has freshwater which is located on the foot of Legaye Lol Hill on the west of Sagea VIllage. 


The length of this lake is approximately 2.5 km and a width of 2.4 km. In the middle of the lake, there is a small island named Yefi Island, which makes this lake unique. On the shore of the lake, there are many kinds of plants such as mangrove and other wood trees. Lake shells live on the bottom of the lake, which can be processed into food such as floss with high protein content.

The distance to reach the lake is more than 2 km, with approximately 25 minutes from Sagea Village. The means of transport which can be used to visit this lake is long boat, or traditional boat (ketinting). The distance between Lake Yonelo and Weda is 56 km.


At the far end of the lake, there is a tomb which is close to a freshwater springs. It is said that in this place is buried a descendant of sultanate Jailolo named Muhammad Taher. Until now, this tomb is sacred by Sagea and surrounding society. This tomb is often used as a place of pilgrimage by the locals and poeple outside Halmahera.
